The French Language Lab (FLL) is a project dedicated to bringing students who are learning French to the next level. From Grammar to Pronunciation, from the discrepancy between written and colloquial French, these challenges for learners don’t make their journey to mastering French as easy as it can be for other languages. The content has been developed and expanded for a period of time of over 6 years of almost daily French teaching to foreign students. We started with simple notes, explaining the practice, to a series of books covering almost all aspects of the languages that will make you close to fluency.
If you have been struggling with time agreement in French or still wonder why native French speakers have a hard time understanding your sentences, there is no way to get discouraged. It’s not about you being unable to learn advanced French or lose your native language accent, it’s only about stepping in the footsteps of French speakers. That’s how you will close the gap between the hard work you are putting into and the result of being able to communicate and understand.
Is this method better than others?
We wouldn’t say it this way. There are hundreds of tremendous and efficient teachers who can provide outstanding French classes. We simply do things a bit differently, but this push can make you reach your goal with no more delay. And that could make a huge difference.
Our methodology is based on the principle that you can’t put into practice what you don’t understand. Whereas in most languages, there is a simple use of adjectives related to nouns, French knows more than a dozen of rules and exceptions about it. And it’s not possible to skip it on your path to fluency. You need to understand that placing the adjective before or after the noun affects the meaning and therefore, the message you either receive or you want to share.
That’s why our goal is to make the journey easier by providing you extensive explanations without avoiding any hard stuff. In a communication with native speakers, we don’t and can’t expect them to adjust all the time to our abilities. On the contrary, we have to be adjustable and get prepared for it. That requires a little more effort at the beginning to grasp the bigger frame, and, starting from that, you can navigate more easily and faster.
Who can join?
The books and lessons have been designed to provide answers to any student, from a beginner level to an advanced level. However, the hundreds examples given in the various volumes may be more easily understood with a certain practice. If you are a total beginner, it might be a bit arduous and challenging to know the exceptions of French noun plurals. However, we do our best to make it the simplest possible.
In a near future, we will complete our own bookshelf available on the website with books focused on beginner levels only.
Why not provide the books for free since there is a lot of free content online?
The books have been written on our own free time with the goal to help the more students as possible. Nevertheless, a website and publishing on a platform has a cost, including the book cover design, the editing or the marketing. Although we have kept it the books at the lowest price possible, if anyone cannot genuinely afford it, just write an email and we will send a copy for free. No one should be prevented from learning and making progress due to financial issues. If you think our policy fair and our platform useful, please consider helping our project and click on the link.
